View All Teachers

I was raised in East Tennessee, in Maryville, then moved to Jekyll Island, Georgia for high school in Brunswick.

I attended Armstrong State University for both the Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics and my Master's degree in Secondary Mathematics.

I feel that my education will always be ongoing, for you never stop learning . . . from your own endeavors and from your colleagues and students!  My students have been some of the best teachers I have ever had . . . they teach me how they learn best!

I have taught for thirty years, and have experience with all levels of mathematics from grades 9 to 12.  I also had the pleasure of teaching three different totally blind students in my 'sighted' classes . . . and boy, did that give a new meaning to explaining the mathematics precisely and in detail so that they could 'see'!

I've spent many years teaching workshops to teachers from elementary school to high school level.  I feel that this has given me more insight into the mathematics my students have learned before coming to me.  I've also taught at colleges which gives me a better understanding of what I need to do to make my students better prepared for what's coming up in their future!

As mentioned in my education, I was raised in Maryville, Tennessee.  I still have many relatives living in that area, while the rest of my family are in Franklin, North Carolina.  Therefore, when I was honored to be able to move to this school system (I was living on Tybee Island and teaching in Savannah) I felt that I was 'coming home'.

I have one daughter and three lovely grandchildren.  They live below Atlanta.  Now my 'child' at home is my cat.

I've spent many years in education . . . teaching foremost.  I've always been involved in curriculum writing, state and national mathematics conferences and workshops, and staff development. I am one of the academic team coaches, along with Mrs. Mason, and am looking forward to helping those folks win some competitions!

I am a member of the United Methodist Church in Mineral Bluff, where I enjoy staying active in Sunday school, singing in the choir, and helping in areas like vacation bible school and mission trips.  I went with my church from Tybee to New Orleans one year after Katrina, and I will always be thankful for that opportunity to help those folks.

My hobbies include reading, working with plants, and when I get another piano, trying to remember those childhood lessons on how to play those 88 keys:-).

I love what I do, for my main 'hobby' is my school.  My students become my second family.
