I am a native of Etowah,Tennessee and a 1977 graduate of McMinn Central in Englewood,Tennessee. Throughout my high school years I participated in football, basketball, wrestling and baseball.  I was an active member of the FCA and Science Clubs.  In 1985 I returned to McMinn Central as the head football coach until 1992. In 1995 I was elected into the school's Hall of Fame as a player and coach.  In the spring of 2012 I was elected into the school's baseball Hall of Fame.

After graduating high school I attended the University of Tennressee, Knoxville where I received my B.S. Degree in Health and Physical Education.  In 1993 I received my M.A. degree in curriculum and instruction from Tusculum College in Greenville,Tennessee. In 1997 I received my Ed.S. degree from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee.  I have taught and coached at Copper Basin Hgh School, McMinn County High School, McMinn Central High School and presently Fannin County High School. I have served as head football coach at McMinn Central High School and Copper Basin High School for a total of 22 years. I was the head offensive coordinator at Fannin County in 2010 when we won the 8AA Sub Region Championship. I have been fortunate to be able to coach my two sons Travis and Trevor as well as teach and coach with Travis at Fannin County High School.

I have been married to my wife Midge (a Fannin County Alumni) since December 10, 1983. We have two sons, Travis, 31, a teacher and coach at Fannin County High School, a daughter-in-law, Kristen Bowers Stone, and Trevor, 20.
